Blanche McVeigh
(1895-1970) Fort Worth, Texas
McVeigh was born in Missouri
and moved to Ft. Worth, Texas during her childhood. She studied at the St.
Louis School of Fine Arts; Art Institute of Chicago; Washington University
and at the Arts Students League in New York. Returning to Texas, her art
specialty was etching and teaching her craft and co-founded the Texas School
of Art and renamed the Fort Worth School of Fine Arts. She was active with
several art groups and additionally was co-founder of the Texas Printmakers.
During her career, she was known and highly respected for her works of
figurative etchings and aquatints, many of African-American subject matter.
She was a very active exhibitor winning many awards and honorable mentions, from Texas to
California to New York, including works in the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition; The
National Academy of Design in New York; The 1939 New York Worlds Fair & on and on.
