Eloise Polk McGill
(1868-1939) San Antonio, Texas

    McGill was born in Independence, Texas. A direct descendant of President James Knox Polk and grandniece of Judge R.E.B. Baylor, the founder of Baylor University at Waco.

    McGill studied with Robert Jenkins Onderdonk in San Antonio and with William Merritt Chase in New York;  Robert Reid in Paris and landscape painting at the Cape Cod School of Art, MA.

     Beginning in 1888, McGill was a frequent exhibitor, including works in the late 20's at the Edgar B. Davis competition at the Witte Museum. She later taught art and named the school "Edgar B. Davis School of Wildflower Painting".

    McGill was a member of the Southern States Art League; The San Antonio Art League; Texas Fine Arts Asso. and others.

    McGill's works are highly prized by collectors and she signed her works E.P. McGill
